Welcome to NSSBARC
North Sydney Smallbore & Air Rifle Club is a community volunteer run club which promotes competitive shooting in a supportive environment, emphasizing safety, skill development, and community involvement.
History
NorthSydney Smallbore and Air Rifle Club operates on the 50 metre range at the North Shore Regional Target Shooting Complex, Hornsby, Sydney. The long term success of this Club is due to members accepting and encouraging many disciplines, rather than concentrate on thr Club's original prone 50 metre smallbore discipline.
Recognizing that ths is a Community based Sporting Facility, members welcome Community groups from across Sydney, with Try Shooting and Advanced Coaching programs. Groups such as local Schools, Cadet Units, Scouts, Venturers, Police and other shooting Clubs use the Club's range and facilities through the week, as a sporting, training and meeting venue.
When NSSBARC began operating on the current site, they used an old Army hut as Clubhouse. This had a verandah down one side to provide a covered firing point. There were 15 paper targets at 50 metres, and a brick extension provided a comfortable Clubhouse and secure armoury storeage.
Unfortunately a wind storm demolished the verandah, but this meant that the facility had ample insurance, when it burnt down, late 2007.
The current new building was then opened 25th October 2008, with the hard work of a core membership group. It is important to recognize the considerable support of students, parents and Shore School, at this time, in getting the Club back on its feet.
The original long army hut provided an indoor 10 metre Air Rifle range, which was sadly lost in the fire. with recent increased interest in Air Rifle and availability of air tanks, the club is now supporting prone, kneeling and standing air rifle.
A dedicated group of members, led by David Hollister began to convert the range over to electronic targets in 2008. All 15 targets are now electronic, which has improved safety and allowed a greater number of shooters to compete. To recognize this leadership the firing point was dedicated to David Hollister, in 2019.
By continually adapting to the needs of the surrounding community, and steadily changing firearms perceptions North sydney Smalbbore and Air Rifle Club looks forward to a bright, competitive future.
