How do you get a firearms license?

All information below is current as of June 2026 and is just our best understanding of the process.
To fullfil the requirements you need to understand and complete the following:
  • Have a genuine reason - as a member of NSSBARC you would have a genuine reason of Sport/Target Shooting
  • Complete the Firearms Safety training

    Firearms Registry

  • Minors Permits
    • Safety Courses
    There are many places who offer Firearms Safety Courses below are a few we are aware of:
  • Firearms Safety & Training Council - located in the North Shore these guys have many trainers avialable nearby.
  • St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre - they have regular group sessions but a bit of a trek.
  • SSAA Firearms Safety Courses - have a few places you can book in.
